Passie voor Ferrari

Passie voor Ferrari
over ferrari, italiaanse auto's, passie,

My sisters wedding

Last Friday was a beautiful day because my siter got married.
8 years ago she met her husband in Cuba while she was there as a travel guide and he was the bus driver of the tourist bus they where traveling with.
For me it still sounds like a "meant to be story" and makes the story even better.
I was asked to record this unforgettable day by translating it to pictures and my brother (www.autarkicom) shot the video.
Ofcourse I will share some photos with you and hope you enjoy them!

Last days in fascinating Kathmandu

19-11-2010
Last days in fascinating Kathmandu

While sitting in the tourist bus on my way to the chaotic but fascinating city Kathmandu, I realized how privileged I am traveling through this country. Through a country where people really have to work hard to survive. Even basic things like food and a safe place to live are here not the standard of life. For many people there is no job, even when they finished university. For this reason many young ambitious Nepalese people leave the country to find a job somewhere else in the surrounding Asian countries. Nepalese find this a pity because they could add an important value to the development of the country.

We pass the hills and colorfull villages. When you look more close there are a lot of poor people who live in barracks from everything nature has to offer. Although there is no luxury in the houses, people look clean and especially women, are beautifully dressed with colorful closes. Every part of their closes make a perfect combination.

When the bus is stopping somewhere children come to the bus and beg for food, money or something else. Even in the valleys high in the mountains of the Manaslu area children from the village where begging. I believe this is part of their culture and especially since they see more and more of the tourists coming in their country with all kids of luxuries. Some Nepali's say life standard is getting better in some parts of Nepal but without a government there will be no organization and even worse, corruption will be growing.

Yesterday I was speaking with the lady of a bookshop, where I bought a book, and she was telling me her story. She worked for thirty years in this bookshop and most of the time she even didn't sold any book after a long day from 8 to 10 in the evening. Even when selling, margins are so low that it's still difficult for her family to have something to eat every day.

Some other tourists I have spoken to mentioned the disagree with the roads that are building in the mountain areas, like fore example in the Annapurna circuit. The people who live in these areas have a low standard of life and always had to carry things like food and closes. Up to their villages. Sometimes this is taking weeks. In a lot of places the government doesn't finance an of the road or hydraulic power projects. The local people are trying to save money and are collecting donations from tourists within the short season. Probably the roads will bring, besides a wast of the natural landscape also a better life standard in some remote areas. We saw plenty of trekkers (read tourists) that will appreciate the luxuries in the lodges high in the mountains. I'm sure the adventures trekker has still a lot to explore in Nepal and will go to other areas.

While time past by we arrived in Kathmandu after I tried to share with you my thoughts and impressions along the way. We will visit the old town (and since a few years part of growing city Kathmandu) with probably some amazing photography subjects.

Enjoy the day!

Back from the Manaslu trek, in Pokara

08-11-2010
Back from the Manaslu trek, in Pokara

Yesterday the Manaslu trek was finished and we arrived in Boerboele. Today we went by jeep and mini bus to Pokhara.

'One of the basic houses we visited during the trek'

The trek was magnificent, especially the part before we went over the "Larkya La pass" was a very pure part of Nepal. The valley where the Nepali people have a very basic life and in some occasions are very poor. High in the mountains the houses where not more then some walls from rocks and a wooden roof with some iron plates. In the lower valleys the people where in most occasions Hindu and beautiful and colorful dressed while high in the mountains Boudist people who came from the old Tibet, live poor and wear old, dirty closes.

The Manaslu area showed a diversity with old forests and barren maintain landscapes.

'High Himalayan mountain landscapes during the trek' On the climb up to Samdo I got sick, probably of some food or water. I was throwing up while walking above 3000 meter, felt awful but know I had to go on to Samdo where we had to do a rest day for acclimatizing. I managed but had to take some antibiotics to recover. I was lucky because I recovered quick and managed to do some side-trips to remote valleys on the border of the old Tibet. I met an Tibetan guy who brought a cripple yak back to Samdo. We had really nice conversations about the life up in the high Himalayan mountains and I was lucky he lived for 13 years in Kathmandu and spoke perfectly English. It was a great experience meeting the local pear everywhere. During the trek we where staying with local people and I sat by the fire while the dal bat dinner was prepared. Our from Asian Heritage told me about the Nepali culture and different religions in Nepal.

'Indian jeep for the bumpy road'

We just arrived in Pokhara by jeep and have a view over the lake and the great Annapurna range.

'Sunset on the lake at Pokhara'

Tomorrow we will have a rest day en Wednesday we will leave early to begin with the Annapurna sanctuary trek to the Annapurna base camp.

I made a lot of photos during the last two weeks and will go through them to sort them out. Usually I take a lot of double photos with different aperture of shutter-speed. Depending on the histogram I will delete photos that are bad exposed or with a composition I don't like. But fist relax, eat, drink a beer and, have a look at Pokhara.

Wallpapers Oktober and September added for the monthly wallpaper series

Hi there! Finaly time came to continue the wallpaper series and share September and October wallpapers with you.

Both are part of the series I shot of my recent trip to the alps when visiting Chamonix, Zermatt and Aosta vally with the Grand Paradiso National Park.
The shots I've chosen are from a long daywalk we tould to avoid the crowds at the elevator stations. We walked across the Matterhorn and got many different views on this amazing, big mountain.
I tried to take a lot of photos with peaple in the frame but both wallpapers, of this remote landscape, I find most striking.
The sun was playing a thouph game by creating a very hard shadow as seen in October wallpaper.
September was made just after sunset close to the Matterhorn.
Files are 1280x800. For 1920x1280 take a look here
For more shot of the trip watch the slide here
Next week I will be flying to Kathmandu to do the Manaslu trek and take shots of this remote area.
Can't wait till the moment I'm walking amongst the big himalayan mountains with 8000 meter peaks!
